Q: What are Dan Tyre Office Hours?

A: Office Hours is an opportunity for people to connect with me for 25 or 50 minutes at a local restaurant or co-working space to talk through your personal or business challenges, "potholes", & priorities to get a new perspective, evaluate options and hopefully solve problems.

Office Hours is also an opportunity for me

 to connect with entrepreneurs, job seekers, career changers, non-profits, students and community leaders to find out how I can help. It's sometimes helpful to talk through your top issues and priorities in order to help brainstorm ideas and get people moving forward.

I borrowed the concept of office hours from my friend and marketing whiz Mike Volpe, CEO of www.Lola.com, who generously held mentoring office hours in Boston, MA when he was between jobs. He was super motivated to help entrepreneurs and I thought that was a thoughtful and generous thing to do. So since 2012, I have spent one day per month meeting with anyone who wants to meet with me to help however I can.

Earlier in my business career, I was constantly faced with new challenges that I had no idea how to address. Many times I would be “stuck” with a difficult problem and unable to figure out the next steps. It was stressful. Every now and then, I would find an experienced business person who would have dealt with that problem. Talking through scale-up issues with someone who has first hand knowledge and experience of that problem can help with problem discovery and potentially broaden the universe of proposed solutions.

Q: Why did you start doing Office Hours in Phoenix?

A: Because of my relationship with HubSpot & my visibility in the Phoenix entrepreneurial ecosystem, I get a fair number of people who ask me for help with various projects. I am on the road a lot, so setting aside one day a month for face-to-face meetings helps me stay connected with the local start-up scene and stay organized.
